From Paris and Berlin, Alain Taieb, Chairman of the AGS Group, and Boris Germann, President of the Froesch Group, announce the merger of their existing branches in Moscow, Russia: As of 1 January 2006, AGS Moscow and Froesch Moscow became AGS FROESCH Moscow.
|
The two companies each own 50% of the shares of the merged operation. Outside of Russia, however, AGS and Froesch will remain financially independent of each other and will maintain their respective strong relationships with international removal and relocation partners.
The complexities of Russian procedures and protocol present a unique challenge to clients moving internationally, but with over 30 years of operating experience in Russia, AGS Froesch will offer a complete solution for agents and corporate clients all over the world.
The management of this new structure has been entrusted to Mr. Igor Shutov, who had been working in a large logistics company (staff of 80). The management of both AGS and Froesch wish him success in this important joint venture.
We are very excited by this unique experience in the history of the Group and we look forward to maintaining and developing new business opportunities in Russia.

Doing business in Nigeria can be tough and risky, yet it has been reported that the potential for good returns far outweigh the difficulties. Guillaume Lebourdon, Branch Manager of AGS Frasers Nigeria in Lagos, sheds some light on current issues in Nigeria.
What do you see as the primary markets in Nigeria?
Nigeria ’s main market is oil, which is very developed in Port Harcourt and in Lagos where many petroleum companies have their headquarters. The telecommunication sector is booming at the moment with the arrival and development of new technologies (wi-fi, high speed internet, etc). |

|
|
|

|
What challenges do you face in your business operations in Nigeria?
An undeveloped infrastructure and the volatility of an emerging economy are the two of the primary challenges. Fluctuations in Nigerian oil production also affect business development in this country.
If doing business in Nigeria is difficult, why do companies still operate in this country?
Due to the size of the Nigerian market and the huge opportunities available, many businesses are prepared to deal with the many difficulties to penetrate it.
The large informal economy and proven high yields are just some of the many opportunities present in Nigeria. |
|
What future opportunities do you see in Nigeria ?
Given the large potential market, we have many exciting developments planned. To accommodate new and existing clients, AGS Frasers will be opening two new branches in Port Harcourt ( Nigeria’s oil centre) and Abuja (capital of Nigeria).
Nigeria offers great promise to foreign investors. Goldman Sachs predict that Nigeria’s economy will be the world’s 20th largest by 2025, and 11th in 2050. Due to massively improved governance, high oil prices and an enterprising populace, Nigeria is fast becoming an economic force in Africa.

On 4 December 2005, AGS Mayotte sponsored a doubles pétanque tournament held in Pointe Mahabou, a magnificent botanical garden in Mamoudzou. 120 participants drawn from the community of teachers, administrators and military personnel on the island competed for the grand prize of two airplane tickets to Mauritius.
The other prizes, also sponsored by AGS, were a weekend for two in the island’s best hotel for the runner-up, and a dinner for two in a fancy restaurant in Mamoudzou for third place. The games were played on the six pétanque courts that local authorities have created in the garden. |

|
 |
The competition took place in a perfect setting, in a gentle summer breeze under the garden’s flame trees, and friendliness, good humour and sportsmanship characterised the day’s activities.
The tournament was closely contested, and in the end Mr. Azad, a local businessman, beat Stéphane, a gendarme from Sada, in the final. Mr Azad’s exceptional display of skills was applauded by all the spectators.
AGS would like to thank Mrs. Anne-Marie Guirouard-Aizée, the Mayotte branch manager, who had the idea of the tournament, as well as Mr. Régis Salvi and his wife, who meticulously organised the day’s events and contributed to making it the success that it was. |

The results of the latest FAIM audits are impressive.
Both AGS Frasers Ghana and AGS Frasers Uganda were awarded FAIM accreditation for four years instead of the usual two.
FIDI awards four-year accreditations in cases where the company’s operational processes and quality management system are of an exceptionally high standard. |
 |
Congratulations to the staff of these two branches on their outstanding achievement. |

AGS recently hosted a farewell party to thank Jean Bettevy for his years of service. Jean Bettevy recently retired, thus bringing to an end a distinguished career. |
 |
Jean first served in the French Navy as a marine commando. After 28 years of military service, Jean joined the AGS Group in 1993 as branch manger of AGS Brest .
He always represented the company with dedication and professionalism, and was well-liked by all who worked with him. Bertrand Dolou, who has been working closely with Jean in the Brest branch for the last two years, replaces him as branch manager.
When asked whether he will miss his active life, Jean replies: “When I worked, I was on stage. And at night when I went into the wings, I had less to offer. And you should always give the best of yourself to those you love…” |
A special evening was held on 18 January to mark this occasion and to thank Jean for his invaluable contribution to AGS. He will be sorely missed.
